Gratz Bridge is Falling Down

Out with the old, in with the new. The new KY-22 bridge spanning the Kentucky River from Carrollton/Lockport to Gratz is up and ready. That left an old, historic steel bridge just dangling over the river lonely. The demolition crew acted quickly to remove the roadway and pavement of the bridge. Then, the above video will show you what happened next.

It is a bit sad to see the old bridge go down. The new bridge does not lead into Gratz but off to the south a little, which worries some that the new bridge will divert traffic away from News Cafe as well as the bank in town. The good news is that where the bridge once connected to Gratz will be a boat ramp, and possibly a park. Much of the clean-up effort on the Gratz side of the bridge is being performed by Linda and Earl New of News Cafe and Antiques.

In memory of the old bridge, I have some of my photos here.
